Foreign nationals urged to regularize their stay in Uganda

Immigration has told foreign nationals, who are in Uganda illegally, to report to the ministry of Internal Affairs and legalize their stay.

This follows an operation where several of them were deported.

Simon Mundeyi, the public relations officer in the ministry, said last year they arrested 1655 illegal immigrants.

He said 36 of foreign nationals were found to be victims of trafficking in persons, 309 were deported, 80 of them appealed and their cases are being handled, 62 regularized their stay in Uganda and 23 sought asylum and we’re referred to the OPM.

“I understand foreigners come to Uganda and enjoy the atmosphere because Uganda is a beautiful country. However, I urge all foreigners to follow the right procedure so that they stay in Uganda peacefully,” Mundeyi said.
