Collins Tanga, whose victory as the NRM national youth chairperson was nullified recently has accused the party tribunal of lacking independence in its ruling against him.
“I, Collins, believe it is not a crime to be the son of Dr. Tanga Odoi, the chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission. My father neither influenced my victory nor presided over our elections,” he told the media.
Tanga expressed disappointment with his opponent, Brenda Kiconco, for repeatedly misleading the public by alleging that the election results were tampered with and that Dr. Tanga Odoi’s position as chairman influenced the outcome in his favour.
“I strongly disagree with these claims,” Tanga asserted. “I firmly believe there was a conspiracy to nullify my victory by the tribunal, but I remain resilient. The voters are still there, and I am confident I will win the rerun. My opponent’s only weapon is the propaganda she continues to spread, particularly against Dr. Tanga Odoi, falsely claiming he interfered in the elections to favour me.”
This week, the NRM tribunal nullified the youth elections and ordered a fresh election. The tribunal also directed Dr. Tanga Odoi to step aside, allowing another official to oversee the rerun.
