How security foiled plot by NUP youth to burn Kampala

New information has emerged regarding the NUP prisoners who pleaded guilty to treason charges.

Reports indicate that the group led by Olivia Lutaaya Ssekitoleko (aka Machete) and Rashid Ssegujja was under the command of Waisswa Mufumbiro the current NUP spokesperson.

They allegedly had a plan to overthrow Museveni’s government before before the 2021 elections.

It is alleged that on addition to manufacturing and distributing petrol bombs in Kampala, the group planned to incite a significant riot in the city.

They identified Nakasero Market and Owino market as key locations for their actions, citing their strategic positions and high population density.

To execute their plan, the group approached Ssempijja Bismark and Kayongo Nkajja Godfrey to mobilize other market leaders as these were influential figures in the markets union, serving as national chairman and general secretary respectively.

Reports indicate that meetings took place in secre locations in Banda.

It is asserted that when the president got a report from his intelligence. it prompted him to issue a directive in Septembe 2020 to the minister for Kampala, Minsa Kabanda instructing her to remove market leaders in the city, close their offices and replace them with his confidants headed by Kushaba Suzan and Kimuli Faridah.

She was told to provide the duo with security.

Additionally Museveni instructed the then minister for security Gen. EllyTumwine to ensure the apprehension of all those who were involved in these activities.

No wonder many of those who were arrested including Olivi Lutaaya have pleaded guilty and given government enough information about all the plans in exchange for their freedom.
