Rebecca Kadaga Alitwala, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, has said she is still strong and will defeat her opponents.
Speaking after picking her nomination forms at the NRM offices this week, Kadaga, who is vying for the position of second national vice chairperson of the NRMÂ dismissed critics spreading what she called “fake propaganda” about her ability.
“Those claiming there’s heat for the female post in the party’s highest organ are wrong,” she said with vigor. “Together with colleagues like Hajat Syda Bumba and Janat Mukwaya, we worked to ensure gender balance in the party’s governing organ. I believe in fair competition and will fight tooth and nail for this position.”
Her remarks addressed ongoing public debate about her competition with the current Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, for the CEC role.
Kadaga also outlined her agenda for Kamuli, emphasizing the completion of Jinja City Airport to reduce air traffic at Entebbe International Airport and create jobs for her constituents.
She highlighted ongoing efforts to secure land for development projects, improve road infrastructure, enhance access to clean water, and uplift women and youth livelihoods. She urged critics to read the NRM constitution to better understand the party’s operations.
Entry
Kadaga arrived at the NRM EC offices in a Toyota V8 vehicle marked “DPM.”
Dressed in a yellow outfit and donning sunglasses, she appeared frail but was met with enthusiastic ululations from supporters chanting in Lusoga, a local Ugandan language.
She was warmly welcomed by Dr. Tanga Odoi, James William Kinobe, and other commissioners.
Unlike other candidates, Kadaga was swiftly guided to a designated tent near the EC building to submit her credentials and express her interest in representing women in Kamuli District as a Member of Parliament in the 2026 elections.
Dr. Tanga Odoi directed registrars to assist her directly, bypassing standard procedures.
