Dr Callist Tindimugaya, a veteran water resources specialist, has launched his memoir, The Flow of Purpose: From Streams of Childhood to Building Uganda’s Water Future, documenting his journey from childhood to a long career in Uganda’s water sector.

The book was launched at Hotel Africana, bringing together government officials, professionals, friends, family members and colleagues who have worked with Dr Tindimugaya during his career.

Dr Tindimugaya is the Commissioner for Water Resources Planning and Regulation at the Ministry of Water and Environment, where he heads the department responsible for planning, allocating and regulating Uganda’s water resources.

He began his professional career as a hydrogeologist in 1990 after graduating from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Chemistry. He later obtained a master’s degree in Hydrology and Water Resources and a PhD in water resources management.

The memoir focuses on themes of purpose, faith, discipline, perseverance, leadership and service. It traces Dr Tindimugaya’s journey through childhood, education, religious formation and his professional life in the water sector.

Henry Musasizi, the minister of Finance, who represented former Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda at the launch, said the book carries an important message about living a purposeful life and serving society.

Musasizi said purpose gives people’s lives meaning and helps them remain focused, disciplined and committed to serving their communities and country.

He also linked the lessons in the book to the importance of discipline in public service, particularly in the management of public resources.

He said a lack of discipline in public institutions can weaken public trust, reduce productivity and affect the implementation of government programmes, ultimately contributing to poor service delivery.

Musasizi described Dr Tindimugaya as a hardworking and dedicated public servant who has spent decades contributing to Uganda’s water sector.

Dr Tindimugaya, in his remarks, thanked God, his family, friends, colleagues, mentors and other people who supported him throughout his journey.

He also recognised several people who endorsed and supported his work, including former Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa and Uganda’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Adonia Ayebare.

Dr Tindimugaya said his journey had not been easy, but he was able to reach the stage he is at today because of people who chose to support and walk with him.

He said the book is therefore not simply a story about his personal achievements, but also a reflection of the people, opportunities, values and experiences that shaped his life.

Through The Flow of Purpose, Dr Tindimugaya presents his professional and personal journey as a lesson in perseverance, faith, education and service, while encouraging readers to consider how their own knowledge, talents and opportunities can be used to benefit society.
