President Museveni has urged graduates to be relevant to their societies as they complete their first level of education.

The ceremony was presided over by the University Chancellor Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, the former prime minister of Uganda.
Museveni challenges graduates to desist from the habit of getting rich quickly through using corrupt means.
Museveni asked the graduates to utilize available opportunities and be patriotic.
The president noted that Gulu University has stood the test of time and has transitioned to independence.
The president lauded Rugunda for being a distinguished leader at Gulu University.
The first lady and minister for Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni assured the country that the government is committed to enhance salaries of staff in universities and appealed for patience and calmness.
In her message read for her by the state minister for Primary Education Dr. Moriku Kaducu assured university staff that the government has not forgotten about them but rather was conducting an audit and head count to ascertain the number of workers.
Some of the graduates could not hide their joy upon the successful completion of their studies.
Dr. Kasibante James and Dr Grace Kuteesa, who graduated with bachelors in medicine thanked the government for the support given to them and also lauded the people of Gulu for hosting them for the five years at University.
A total of 1, 338 with 560 Females and 778 males graduated in various disciplines with Sr. Aciro Rosalba being awarded with a degree of doctor of philosophy in education.
Dr. Aciro says that parents should not under-rate their children because of poor performance in class and level of intelligence but given an opportunity.
Gulu University was established by statutory instrument no. 31 of 2003. The university was set to serve as a launch pad for equitable development in Uganda providing knowledge and skills and stimulating innovations in education, technology, economic advancement and social development.
