Pope appoints Rt Rev Wokorach new Archbishop of Gulu

Pope Francis has appointed Rt. Rev. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, as the new Archbishop of Gulu.

It follows the resignation of Achbishop John Baptist Odama after he reached retirement age.

Wokorach has been the Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese.

In a statement from the Luigi Bianco, the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, Odama has been appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Gulu until tthe new archbishop takes over.

“The Apostolic Nunciature desires to congratulate the new Archbishop Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, M.C.C.J and invokes abundant blessings upon his pastoral ministry in that local Church,” Bianco said in a statement.

Archbishop John Baptist Odama is retiring after 25 years of service

The Apostolic Nunciature expressed its gratitude to Odama for his generous sservice during twenty-five years as the first Metropolitan Archbishop of Gulu (1999-2024) and before as the first Bishop of the Diocese of Nebbi (1996-1999).
