The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has extended an invitation to members of the National Unity Platform (NUP) who were denied tickets to contest as flagbearers in the coming elections.
Addressing journalists today, PLU Secretary General David Kabanda said the organization’s influence in Uganda’s political landscape had grown.
He said the PLU is committed to providing a supportive platform for politicians who feel sidelined by their parties.
“The PLU is a welcoming political platform that will always comfort aggrieved politicians ready to join us,” he said.
He noted that approximately 70% of the candidates elected to the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) during the recent delegates conference have strong affiliations with the PLU.
“We congratulate our members for their victory,” Kabanda stated. He further claimed that around 60% of PLU members who participated in NRM primaries for parliamentary and local government positions emerged successful, underscoring the organization’s increasing momentum.
Looking ahead, the PLU announced plans to strengthen its organizational structure by electing leaders at various levels. This initiative aims to bolster the platform’s grassroots presence and mobilization efforts in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
Kabanda reiterated the PLU’s commitment to supporting President Museveni, expressing confidence that their mobilization efforts would help the president secure at least 82% of the vote in the 2026 elections.
