Once Upon A Time…Don Wanyama’s password was ‘Besigye Forever,’ now he’s CEO of Vision Group

Once Upon A Time...Don Wanyama was a great admirer and supporter of Dr Kizza Besigye.

Wanyama, then chief sub-editor of Daily Monitor had even become an informal advisor to FDC, something that did not go down well with some of his bosses at Namuwongo.

Those who worked with Wanyama at the time will tell you that the easiest way to offend him was to say “nasty things about Besigye.”

His fondness for Besigye was so much to the extent that the password for his laptop was “Besigye Forever”.

Things, however, started…to change in 2015 when as, Managing Editor of Daily Monitor, the newspaper published what some deemed a controversial opinion poll that showed that Museveni was destined to be re-elected as president in the 2016 elections. His bosses sent him packing.

After a few months in the cold, President Museveni appointed him as a communications advisor in the NRM chairman’s office then based in Bugolobi.

Then...he started authoring articles in the papers that were critical of the opposition and glowing of the president.

During the 2016, Wanyama played a critical role in designing Museveni’s communications and media strategy. He caught the attention of first son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

After the elections, Museveni appointed him his senior press secretary and five years later, he landed the CEO job at Vision Group.

He… is still the top honcho at Vision Group but what is clear is that he disembarked from the “Besigye Forever Bandwagon” long ago. For now, he is firmly in Museveni’s corner.

  1. As long as this country will stay to be managed by fortune hunters and opportunists, I am assuring you we are heading nowhere as a nation!! Look at Uganda’s parliament and compare it with others on the globe. This will tell you where we are headed to.
I do not want to apoear here like a prophet of doom, but we are yet to experience the worst in our life time than ever before in the next few years ahead!!! Uganda is currently someone’s property and nobody has the muscle to change the status quo hence, we cannot talk as having a sovereign state now.
