The most educated ministers in Museveni’s cabinet

When President Museveni reshuffled his cabinet last week, nthe major pre-occupation of the public was which minister has been dropped or moved to another docket. Others were interested in finding out the new comers to the cabinet. Yet besides those dynamics, there people who are interested in the academic qualifications of the ministers. Many ministers in cabinet today hold a basic university degree, others hold a master’s degree. There are those who hold more than one master’s degree. Some have PhDs. Today we bring you a list of the most educated cabinet ministers. The list is limited to only members of cabinet (not state) who have more than one master’s degree or even PhD. They are seven.

Jessica Alupo (Vice President)

Alupo holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and linguistics, obtained in 1997 from Makerere University. Her first master’s degree, the Master of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy, was also obtained from Makerere University in 2008.

She holds a second master’s degree in Public Administration and Management, obtained in 2009, also from Makerere University.

Robinah Nabbanja (Prime Minister)

Nabbanja holds a Bachelor of Democracy and Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi.

She holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies from Nkozi and a Master of Arts degree in Monitoring and Evaluation from Nkumba University.

Frank Tumwebaze (Minister of Agriculture)

Tumwebaze received a Bachelor of Science in education in 1999, from the Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

He also holds a Masters in International and Diplomatic Studies, and a Masters in Public Health obtained in 2005 and 2019 from Makerere University.

Dr Monica Musenero (Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation)

Musenero (feathured picture) holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Makerere University. She holds a Master of Public Health degree, Makerere University. She has a Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology, awarded by Cornell University, in 1997.

Dr Aceng (Minister of Health)
Aceng holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, a Master of Medicine in Pediatrics, and a Master of Public Health, all from the Makerere University College of Health Sciences.

She also holds a Diploma in Health Systems Management awarded by the Galilee International Management Institute, in Israel.

Dr Chris Baryomunsi (Minister for ICT and National Guidance)

Baryomunsi holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Makerere University.

He holds a Master of Arts in Demography, from Makerere. He obtained a PhD in Public Health from Atlantic International University, USA.

Hillary Onek (Minister for Disaster Preparedness)

Onek holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Civil Engineering and the Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering, from People’s Friendship University in Russia.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Makerere University.
