Mathias Mpuuga, the president of the Democratic Front (DF), has called on party supporters to actively contest for various political positions without fear, emphasizing that no roles are reserved for specific individuals.
Speaking at the DF offices in Mengo, Kampala, Mpuuga urged members to seize the opportunity to strengthen the party by vying for leadership roles, which will shape the DF’s flagbearers for the 2026 general elections.
He highlighted the success of the recent delegates’ conference in Masaka, noting the significant turnout as a testament to the party’s growing influence despite its recent formation.
Mpuuga encouraged financial support for the DF through membership cards, priced at Shs 2,000 (Ordinary), Shs 5,000 (Bronze), Shs 10,000 (Silver), Shs 50,000 (Gold) monthly, and Shs 1 million (Platinum) annually.
He stressed that these contributions would bolster the party’s resources, positioning it as a strong alternative for Ugandans seeking change from President Museveni’s 40-year rule. A digital payment system is planned to enhance accountability and ease the process.
Addressing the party’s leadership composition, Mpuuga clarified that the DF, formed through alliances with like-minded groups has structured its executive based on its constitution and electoral amendments.
He noted that 30% of regional delegates will help fill remaining executive positions after consultations. Mpuuga also cautioned against the commercialization of politics, describing it as dangerous and detrimental to Uganda’s progress.
DF Secretary General Michael Mabike urged aspiring candidates to express interest promptly, noting deadlines of August 15, 2025, for local government positions and August 25, 2025, for parliamentary and presidential candidates.
The party has attracted notable figures, including Noor Ssentongo Kyamundu, who recently joined from JEEMA.
