KCCA hands Dott Services Shs 550 bn deal to construct city roads

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has today unveiled a plan to construct 87 kilometers of roads across the five divisions of Kampala district. The government has allocated Shs 550 billion to fund the construction works, which are set to be completed over the next three years.

During the launch of the Kabaka Lakeside Road project in Lubaga, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago criticized the contracted company, Dott Services, for their history of shoddy work in previous contracts.

In the first phase of the project, six roads, including Kabaka Lakeside Road, Burton Street, Wilson Street, Bukoto Street, and others, totaling 14.6 kilometers, will serve as a benchmark for the authority.

“If Dott Services fails to meet the agreed standards for these roads, KCCA will remove you from Kampala,” Lukwago warned.

Dott Services has faced criticism in the past for delayed work and poor project management. KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki emphasized that the authority will strictly enforce high standards to ensure accountability for taxpayers’ money.

Construction of the 400-meter Kabaka Lakeside Road, connecting Nabunya Road to Ring Road, has begun and is expected to be completed within four months. Residents along the route have voluntarily provided land to facilitate the road’s expansion.

The development of Kabaka Lakeside Road is anticipated to boost tourism in Uganda, particularly for visitors drawn to the lake.

The Buganda Kingdom, represented by the minister for Information Israel Kitooke, announced a partnership with Pastor Robert Kayanja to develop Kabaka’s Lake, with an approved plan in collaboration with KCCA.
