Childcare Nursery and Primary School in Kabale has made it mandatory for each new entrant to come with a hen or if not, pay Shs 20,000 at the school. The school says the hen, a layer, is reared for egg purposes.
According to a list of requirements seen by Bbeg Media school fees at the school ranges from Shs 200,000 to Shs 500,000 for day scholars and boarders respectively.
One of the parents with a child at the school said he supported the move because it teaches young ones to be self-sufficient.
“I have met this director personally, he actually feeds those hens, they are layers, he wants kids to keep on eating eggs everyday throughout the term, some of you should visit this school and see the projects there, for those from Kabale, it’s in Buhara subcounty,” said the parent.
Others however said asking for items like hens was too much since parents have other requirements to purchase.
Since the first term started on February 6, there has been an outcry from parents over high fees and requirements asked by some of the schools.
