Businessman Allan Tayebwa has officially assumed diplomatic status as Uganda’s Honorary Consul to Dominica in the Caribbean.

His appointment was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the line ministry responsible for Uganda’s diplomatic relations. He was ushered in at the ministry headquarters by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, John Mulimba, who urged him to use his new role to market Uganda abroad.

“Once you are given diplomatic status, especially when representing a foreign country, your primary role is to sell your country to the nation where you are a representative,” Mulimba said.

He noted that Uganda has much to offer, including agriculture, tourism, and investment opportunities.

Mulimba encouraged Tayebwa to be a good ambassador by diligently executing his duties and strengthening ties between Kampala and Roseau, Dominica’s capital.

Tayebwa, who runs Goldmine Finance, a credit institution, expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to promote Uganda’s tourism and agricultural potential in the Caribbean island nation.

He said both Uganda and Dominica are tourist destinations with unique natural attractions that can form a basis for cooperation.

Dominica, often referred to as the “Nature Island of the Caribbean”, is famous for its lush rainforests, volcanic landscapes, waterfalls, and the Boiling Lake, one of the world’s largest hot springs. The island also attracts eco tourists drawn to diving sites, hiking trails, and unspoilt beaches.

Tayebwa said agriculture is another area of shared interest. Dominica’s economy relies heavily on farming, particularly bananas, citrus, and root crops. He said Uganda stands to benefit by promoting exports such as coffee and exploring knowledge exchange in climate-resilient agriculture.
