Gertrude Njuba says NRM historicals need to meet to discuss Uganda after Museveni [VIDEO]

The Senior Presidential Advisor on Land Matters, Gertrude Nanyunja Njuba, has said the NRM historical figures need to meet to discuss the direction the country should take post-President Museveni.

Speaking to Bbeg Media at her home in Nangabo, Wakiso District, Njuba stressed that such a meeting would enable historicals to better understand the government’s stance on key issues and provide informed guidance for the country’s future.

“I thank God for this opportunity to speak with you and reach out to my comrades with whom we fought to transform this country. However, it has been too long since we, as historicals, met to discuss and advise on critical issues facing Uganda. I strongly urge that we convene to chart the way forward for a better Uganda, where our grandchildren can thrive,” Njuba said.

Blending humor with Luganda proverbs to underscore her points, Njuba highlighted challenges facing the National Resistance Movement (NRM), symbolized by the yellow bus. She cited persistent issues such as corruption, embezzlement of public funds, land grabbing, abuse of constitutional order, and internal party conflicts.

According to Njuba, these problems deviate from the NRM’s original values, necessitating dialogue to address them. [WATCH VIDEO INTERVIEW BELOW]

Njuba, who now uses crutches for mobility, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for providing her with a vehicle to aid her travels across Uganda in service of the nation. However, she voiced concerns about the lack of coordination with some government officials on matters of national importance.

She noted that elected leaders often assume full control of public roles without consulting historical figures like herself.

Njuba also revealed that she had engaged Ruth Nankabirwa, the minister for Energy, to voice her concerns about mineral wealth exploration in Uganda. However, she believes such discussions are insufficient and require a broader forum, with follow-up actions by relevant ministries.

Njuba joins other historical figures who have publicly urged the NRM government to return to its founding principles to ensure the longevity and success of its achievements after Museveni leaves power.
