Equity Bank Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS by supporting the 2026 Kabaka Birthday Run held in honour of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 71st birthday.

Speaking ahead of the run, the bank’s executive director, Claver Sserumaga, said the institution was honoured to take part in the 13th edition of the annual event, which brings together thousands of participants to raise awareness about public health issues.

“Today we celebrate His Majesty the Kabaka on his 71st birthday. As Equity Bank Uganda, we are honoured to join the 13th edition of the Kabaka’s Birthday Run 2026,” Sserumaga said.

This year’s run is held under the theme “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child,” which focuses on the role of men in ending HIV/AIDS and protecting vulnerable groups, especially young girls.

Sserumaga said the theme highlights a shared responsibility among institutions and individuals to contribute to the global target of ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.

“This year’s theme reminds us of our shared responsibility in the fight to end HIV/AIDS by 2030. Equity Bank proudly stands with Buganda Kingdom in this noble cause,” he said.

He added that the bank’s mission aligns with that of the kingdom in improving lives and promoting prosperity.

As part of its contribution, the bank has purchased and donated 140 kits for the run, demonstrating its support for the initiative and its wider health campaign.

Sserumaga also revealed his personal commitment to the cause, noting that he will take part in the race.

“We are excited to be part of this journey, and personally, I will be running 21 kilometres to show our commitment,” he said.

He called on Ugandans to participate in the run and support efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS.

The Kabaka Birthday Run has become one of Uganda’s largest public health campaigns, mobilising communities and partners to address critical health challenges each year.
