EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi told Bbeg Media that while they had been cleared to use the PFF name the registration process was still incomplete.

The clearance follows threats by PFF promoters to sue the commission over delayed clearance to start the process of registering their new party.

He said PFF has a month to collect the required signatures from across the country before the process can be completed.

“Ugandans should understand that it’s not the political actors who have to say that the process is done. The party is not yet fully registered yet,” Mucunguzi said.

Mucunguzi was clarifying media reports that PFF had been officially registered. He said the EC had just reserved the name, which is just part of the process.

Mucunguzi said the commission had written to the police not to antagonize PFF leaders as they try to look for signatures.

“We have given them a letter introducing them to the police and other authorities to allow them do their activities,” he said.

Later, PFF will have to present all the requirements to the EC for scrutiny one by one before they can be given the final stamp of approval.

He said there were seven other parties that were in the process of being registered.
