FDC has picked Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal as flag bearer in the Dokolo Woman MP by election. Alwoc is the daughter of the former holder of the seat, Cecilia Ogwal who died last month.
Alwoc was unveiled at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi amidst the mourning of party activist, Adam Mulwana, who passed away on February 13.
Party president, Patrick Amuriat said the death of Mulwana and Ogwal was a double tragedy.
“We are in a state of mourning for our late Adam Mulwana as well as our mother Cecilia Ogwal whom we buried recently. Adam Mulwana was known for his ambitious struggle for change in the country, but regardless we move on,” he said.
He dismissed talk that the party’s choice had been influenced by NRM, which enjoyed a cordial relationship with the mother.
Alwoc said she will fill her mother’s shoes.
“My mother was sent to parliament by the people of Dokolo and I am here to fulfill her legacy. Most of you will say, ‘I have been in UK how will you manage?’ I want to assure you that I went there to study I have been working closely with my mother and I know what has been happening in the country. The reason I am standing is because there’s work to be done that was left by my mother,” she said.
The by-election will be held on March 21.
