A seasoned reporter who had previously worked at The Observer, Lyatuu was quiet and unassuming. He was also prolific. At the time of his death, he had written 172 articles for Daily Monitor which he joined in 2019.

His last article published in Daily Monitor on August 20 was titled, “25 taxes, one sector.” It was an analysis of the numerous taxes that were ruining the tourism sector.

However, even at The Observer, his work life was always interrupted by illness.

The Observer’s business editor Jeff Mbanga who partially mentored Lyatuu described his death as a loss to business journalism.

“He was hardworking and always willing to learn new things. We shall miss him,” Mbanga said.

Daily Monitor is yet to issue a statement about Lyatuu’s burial arrangements.
