Nakamya told Bbeg Media she had taken a “sabbatical” to pursue her Chevening scholarship in the United Kingdom.

“I will be away for about one year,” she said.

She was non-committal about whether she would rejoin BBS TV upon return.

She became the second reporter to leave BBS TV in less than a month after senior reporter, Robert Nestrooy Kayongo left at the end of last month.

Nakamya joined BBS TV from NTV where she worked as their correspondent in Luweero.

During her journalism career, Nakamya founded Her Story, a platform that gives women and the girl child a voice.

She came to the fore during the 2021 election campaigns when she covered NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi for BBS TV. Most of her stories centred on the challenges the NUP leader faced from state agencies as he canvassed for votes.

She also did several human interest stories largely centred on women and the challenges they face.

After the 2021 election, her criticism of the government took on a sharper edge and she gained a sizeable following on Twitter (now X). Nakamya won several awards for activist journalism.

She also is a fervent defender of Buganda kingdom and its officials notably Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.
