Charles Mbire to headline SBG Securities Investor Day

MTN Uganda chairman Charles Mbire will headline the inaugural SBG Securities Investor Day on Friday, June 26, as the investment firm seeks to encourage more Ugandans to participate in the country’s financial markets.

The event will be streamed live on the Stanbic Uganda YouTube channel from 12:00 pm East African Time.

The forum comes at a time when more Ugandans are looking beyond traditional savings accounts and exploring investment opportunities such as shares, unit trusts, and government securities.

The day will begin with the SBG Securities annual general meeting for Unit Trust clients. This will be followed by a two-hour interactive session featuring business leaders and financial experts who will share insights on investing, wealth creation, and economic growth.

SBG Securities, a subsidiary of Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited (SUHL), says the event is intended to help close the information gap that often prevents ordinary Ugandans from participating in financial markets.

Grace Semakula, the Chief Executive Officer of SBG Securities, said many people understand the importance of saving but have limited knowledge about investment opportunities that can help them grow their wealth.

“Investor Day is designed to create a platform where investors, business leaders, SUHL shareholders, and economically active Ugandans can engage in meaningful conversations about opportunities within Uganda’s financial markets and the broader economy,” Semakula said.

“As more Ugandans seek ways to grow their savings and secure their financial futures, we believe access to information and expert insights is critical in helping them make informed investment decisions.”

He said the event would allow participants to learn from experts, ask questions, and explore investment options that match their financial goals.

SBG Securities has emerged as one of the leading players in Uganda’s investment sector, recording strong growth in assets under management while maintaining a leading position in stock brokerage.

The company’s growth supports SUHL’s wider diversification strategy as the group expands beyond traditional banking services. Its parent company, Stanbic Bank Uganda, is marking 35 years of operations in Uganda.

Dr Mbire’s keynote address will focus on regional economic growth, private sector development, and the role of investments in creating long-term wealth.

His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion under the theme, “Leveraging Financial Markets to Build and Grow Wealth”.

The panel will feature Samuel Fredrick Mwogeza, Executive Director at Stanbic Bank Uganda, who will discuss wealth management and estate planning.

Also on the panel will be Pumla Nabachwa, Team Lead Economist at the Bank of Uganda, who will share insights on personal financial management, investment diversification, and financial literacy.

Daisy Nabakooza, Director of Supervision and Market Conduct at the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority (URBRA), will discuss retirement planning and the contribution of financial markets to national development.

The discussion is also expected to explore how Stanbic Bank products can complement SBG Securities investment solutions to help clients build and preserve wealth.
