Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, has awarded doctorates to Archbishop Emeritus John Baptist Odama and Fabian Kasi, the managing director of Centenary Bank.
The duo received their honors from the university chancellor and chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Rt Rev Dr. Anthony Zziwa during the graduation ceremony at the main campus.
Archbishop Odama was awarded for his peace efforts in Northern Uganda while Kasi was awarded for his financial and management abilities that have seen Centenary Bank’s profitability rise every year. Last year the bank made profits of Shs 106 billion.
UMU is a Catholic Church founded university established in 1993 by the Uganda Episcopal Conference.
Dr Zziwa urged graduands to strive for justice and human rights.
“Always bravely stand up for justice. My prayer for you dear graduands is to be defenders of and advocates of human rights and justice,” Zziwa said. The vice chancellor of the university Prof Patrick Kyamanywa urged graduands to work collaboratively and always represent the university well.
“Look out for worthy measures and work collaboratively. Remember to come back home always,” Kyamanywa said.
A total of 2,104 students graduated with certificates, diplomas, degrees and masters in various disciplines.
Nine of the graduands were awarded PhDs.
