A fire on Saturday afternoon destroyed goods worth hundreds of millions of shillings on Bakaluba Mall in Mbalwa along Ndiwulira road.
While the cause of the fire is still unknown, eye-witnesses said the started from the top level of the mall before spreading quickly to other parts of the building.
An eye witness said “the entire roof” of the mall had caved in due to the fire.
At the time of writing, firefighters from the Police Fire Brigade were still battling the blaze.
The mall is owned by Yasin Bakaluba, a prominent real estate developer who spent nearly two decades in the United Kingdom before coming back to invest home.
He established Bakaluba Property Services, which builds rental units, apartments, and commercial buildings for both local clients and Ugandans living abroad.
Last weekend, Bakaluba opened an auditorium on the mall.
Story is still developing…
