The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has insisted that Mathias Mpuuga must refund the Shs 500 million he irregularly received from Parliament or tougher actions may be taken.
Addressing the media at Kavule, Kyagulanyi said he had chaired the meeting that made the decision.
“In that meeting Mpuuga admitted that he indeed took part in the meeting that awarded him Shs 500 million and to make it worse this money given to him as a person. As leaders we advised him to do three things. First return that money because it was dirty money, number two to apologize to the country and the third is for him to resign as parliamentary commissioner.
Kyagulanyi did not say what the party will do if Mpuuga rejects all the options.
Mpuuga had earlier today said in a statement said he will not step down claiming that some leaders in NUP were using the incident to fight him.
NUP’s insistence that Mpuuga should resign and the former leader of opposition’s refusal to do so has set both parties on a collision course that will only have one loser: NUP.
