The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Moses Banja, has urged newly elected leaders across the country to support one another for the development of Uganda.
Banja made the remarks at his residence in Namirembe on Friday, shortly before joining Christians for the Way of the Cross.
“I understand that in the recently concluded elections there were mixed reactions from both winners and losers, but we must move on,” he said.
He noted that some candidates who lost in the elections are still struggling to come to terms with the outcome, and called for calm and reconciliation. [WATCH VIDEO]
“As religious leaders, we are appealing for calmness among all Ugandans,” he added.
Reflecting on the significance of Good Friday, Banja urged Christians to use the day to reflect on their past and present lives, and to seek reconciliation in times of difficulty.
He also called for prayers for peace in conflict-affected regions, including South Sudan, Iran and Israel.
Banja was accompanied by Bishop Data Amosa, a bishop from South Sudan who is currently living in Uganda after surviving a rebel attack.
Amosa told journalists that his diocese was attacked by rebels, leading to the destruction of property, including a diocesan vehicle valued at more than $50,000.
He said he is now living in Uganda as a refugee bishop under the care of Banja, and appealed for prayers and support for affected families in South Sudan.
Later, Amosa joined the Way of the Cross, which he said symbolises the resilience of Jesus Christ, who died for the sins of humanity.
The Namirembe diocesan procession made several stopovers, including the School of the Physically Handicapped along Balintuma Road, Mengo Main Gate Hospital, Sanyu Babies Home, before concluding at Old Kampala playgrounds.
