Peter Muweesi, the news editor at BBS TV has suspended senior reporter Robert Mwanje for including politician Samuel Lubega Mukaaku in a news analysis about Mathias Mpuuga’s Masaka event.
Mwanje, we understand, has been suspended for two days.
The five minutes long news analytical story ran on June 22 on BBS TV’s 10.00 PM news bulletin “Ageesigika”. It featured other politicians like the veteran Wasswa Lule and bytes of Medard Sseggona and Mpuuga. It was looking at the political implication of Mpuuga’s thanksgiving ceremony held on June 21 in Masaka. (see Video below).
We have been reliably told that Muweesi had repeatedly told Mwanje not to give Mukaaku airplay over unknown reasons.
“He just does not like Mukaaku and we don’t know why,” said one of our sources in Mengo.
However, we also understand that there has been friction between Muweesi and some senior reporters at BBS who view him as being inexperienced for the role. Muweesi did not pick our repeated calls.
We were also unable to talk to Mwanje as his phones were off.
For more than 10 years, Mwanje worked as reporter at Daily Monitor where he covered activities of the KCCA, before crossing over to BBS TV in 2016.
He becomes the second journalist to be suspended this week over events surrounding Mpuuga’s thanksgiving ceremony after NBS TV suspended senior talk show host, Simon Njala Kaggwa, for 14 days for hosting the Masaka event.

NBS said Kaggwa had breached ethical guidelines which require staff to be non-partisan.
