Robert Kyagulanyi, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has flown out of Uganda 17 times over the last 12 months.
An analysis of his trips by Bbeg Media shows that 12 of those trips have been related to promoting his documentary; Bobi Wine: The People’s President and gala and fashion awards.
The documentary about his struggle to remove President Museveni was nominated for an Oscars award this month. Trips related to this documentary took him to several countries and cities, our analysis shows.
Trips directly related to his political mobilization within this period are five which include meetings in Canada, Poland, Denmark, Holland and the US where he met the different NUP diaspora chapters and attended political meetings.
There have been some months when Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has not travelled out of the country like in August 2023, which he spent on his mobilisation countrywide tours.
Bbeg Media relied on Kyagulanyi’s twitter posts and media reports to compile this information.
There has been criticism from some quarters about Kyagulanyi’s frequent trips abroad. His critics have often said that he spends more time out of the country than within, affecting the momentum of the struggle to build pressure that will topple President Museveni.
But Kyagulanyi has countered that he needs to make some of these travels to mobilise international support and draw global attention to Museveni’s misrule.
Yet on the whole, he has spent more time in Uganda in the last one year, contrary to what some of his critics say.
