Political and social activist, Jeje Odea, has reportedly gone into hiding after allegedly receiving threats over his participation in the ongoing campaign to expose the rot in Parliament.
Agather Atuhaire, who is on the forefront of the campaign, wrote on X that she had received a call from a member of Odea’s family worried about his safety and asking about his whereabouts.
“I know that Josh has been forced to flee from home after being tipped off that police was waiting for him at his home to arrest him. In a normal country an innocent person wouldn’t be afraid of arrest but here where they’re not arrests but kidnaps, where your loved ones can spend months or even years without seeing you again, where you might come out maimed or disfigured, one has to run for their lives,” Atuhaire wrote.
Odea, whose uses the X handle @joshjeje2, reportedly disappeared on Febraury 26 after police came looking for him at his home. His last post on X was on the opposition MPs who had been blocked from accessing Lubowa Specialised Hospital.
His whereabouts are not known.
One of his friends said on X that he had last spoken to him yesterday evening. He said the activist sounded shaken.
Another claimed that before going into hiding, Odea had received a call from someone close to Speaker Anita Among, who asked him why a “son of Bukedea” would criticise Among who hails from the same district.
Odea is a prominent activist on X and is known for calling out government to improve social services especially health and education facilities.
The #UgandaParliamentExhibition has not only ruffled the feathers of the big shots in Parliament, it has exposed shocking details of mismanagement of public resources by MPs on either side of the political aisle.
