The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has extended the registration deadline for candidates sitting the 2026 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations to June 30, 2026.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Uganda Media Centre, UNEB executive secretary Dan Odongo said the extension was intended to give newly accredited examination centres enough time to complete the registration process.
“The decision to extend registration was made mainly to accommodate new centres that have recently been accredited. We urge all centres to complete the registration process early within the period allowed to avoid the congestion that usually occurs towards the deadline,” Odongo said.
He explained that late registration will begin on July 1, 2026, and end on July 31, 2026.
Candidates who register during the late registration period will be required to pay surcharges. PLE candidates will pay a 100 per cent surcharge, while UCE and UACE candidates will pay a 50 per cent surcharge.
Odongo also announced that the government will continue to meet registration costs for candidates sponsored under the Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and Universal Post O-Level Education and Training (UPOLET) programmes.
He urged all examination centres to submit details of eligible candidates within the normal registration period to avoid delays.
On assessment reforms, Odongo said this year’s UACE candidates are the first cohort to have completed the competency-based curriculum at the UCE level.
He noted that they will now be assessed under the aligned UACE curriculum, which incorporates competency-based assessment methods, including scenario-based tasks designed to test the practical application of knowledge and skills.
UNEB also reminded candidates with foreign academic qualifications that their results must first be equated by the board before they can register for national examinations.
After the equating process is completed, affected candidates will receive a unique code that will enable them to register electronically.
The same procedure applies to adult candidates and candidates who have legally changed their names and require approval before registration.
