Female National Workers MP Fiona Nakku has celebrated her swearing-in with supporters, family members and friends following her official entry into Parliament.
Speaking during the celebrations at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, Nakku praised the youth for the support they gave her throughout the electoral process.
“My fellow youth stood with me from the very beginning and overwhelmingly voted for me,” she said.
Nakku also credited senior members of the workers’ leadership and the NRM secretariat for mentoring and guiding her political journey.
“I thank the senior leaders for their guidance and mentorship, which has enabled me to become a member of parliament representing female workers,” she added.
The celebration was attended by several senior political leaders and supporters.
Capt Mike Mukula, the former NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda, was the chief guest at the event. He urged Nakku and other newly elected MPs to take a leading role in the fight against corruption.
Mukula referenced remarks made by President Museveni during the inaugural swearing-in ceremony, where the President reiterated his stance on zero tolerance for corruption.
“Corruption should be treated as a taboo in this country because it affects development,” Mukula said.
He further noted that Uganda’s population is largely made up of young people below the age of 30 and challenged youth representatives in Parliament, including Nakku, to prioritise issues affecting young people.
Meanwhile, Barbara Nekesa, the NRM treasurer and Nakku’s elder sister, encouraged the legislator to use her parliamentary position to build a strong legacy and inspire others.
“As your sister, I will always be available to guide you, alongside other leaders, to ensure that you do not disappoint us,” Nekesa said.
She also advised Nakku to prioritise workers’ concerns while remaining attentive to broader national issues affecting the public.
