Stanbic Bank Uganda has announced a scholarship programme aimed at motivating Uganda’s digital creators ahead of the Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit 2025, which will take place on December 11, 2025.

The bank said the initiative is part of its wider support for the government’s digital transformation agenda, which seeks to drive economic growth by fostering a vibrant digital market ecosystem.

Speaking at a news conference at the Onomo Hotel, Lois Aber Kwikiriza, Stanbic Bank’s Marketing, said the scholarships will give creators world-class capabilities to grow, monetise, and professionalise their work.

Uganda’s creator economy is among the country’s fastest-growing sectors, driven by young people, innovation, and digital entrepreneurship. The bank said the summit is positioned as a national platform to equip creators with digital skills, business capacity, financial literacy, and guidance on responsible content practices.

The event is being organised by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Ongea Africa, and the Uganda Digital Society, with Stanbic Bank as lead sponsor.

The annual Stanbic Digital Content Creator Prize features five scholarship categories. These include Creator of the Year (Premium Professional Course), Emerging Creator Award (Short Course), Social Impact Creator Award (Mid-Level Course), Entertainment Excellence Award (Motion Graphics and Animation), and the Financial Literacy Creator Award (Business and Management Insights).

Kwikiriza said the awards are aligned with Stanbic’s Women, Youth and Farmers Agenda, a three-year programme worth Shs 1 trillion that began in mid-2025. It aims to expand access to credit, support enterprise growth, and promote digital and financial inclusion.

“This summit aligns directly with Stanbic Bank’s purpose: ‘Uganda is our home; we drive her growth.’ Stanbic is investing Shs 1 trillion over the next three years to expand opportunities for young Ugandans, including those in the digital creator space,” she said.

Joseph Kanyamunyu, speaking on behalf of Ongea Africa, said the summit is not simply an event but a national development platform. The Ongea Skills Lab will provide digital and business skill-building sessions.

The summit will also promote policy awareness, as mandated by the UCC. The regulator will provide guidance on licensing and regulation to support a secure and innovative digital ecosystem. Other activities will include ICT labs, device distribution, and an Innovation Hub Fair.

Kenneth Tweheyo, the UCC Head of Competition and Consumer Affairs, said they support platforms like the Ongea Summit because they encourage responsible content creation, digital safety, and innovation.
