Tayebwa wants Uganda to have a universal health scheme

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has proposed that implementing a universal medical insurance scheme could significantly enhance Uganda’s health sector. He said there was a need for improved resource management and better equipment in health facilities across the country.

Tayebwa made these remarks while officiating at the 30th-anniversary celebrations of Case Hospital.

He urged private health institutions to adopt artificial intelligence and advanced technology to improve research and healthcare delivery.

Dr Kato Ssebaale, chief executive officer of Case Hospital, appealed to the government to provide special rates for water and electricity bills, citing their critical role in sustaining healthcare services and saving lives.

Over the past 30 years, Case Hospital has evolved into a leading center for medical treatment, training healthcare professionals, and conducting innovative research. From its humble beginnings as a three-bed clinic, it has grown into a 120-bed facility that has served over 40 million patients.

At the event, Tayebwa launched a loyalty card programme for Case Hospital, introducing a new initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare services.
