BBS TV’s Stella Nandawula, husband flee to US for “Kyeyo”

Stella Nandawula Ssendagire, a prominent news anchor at BBS TV, and her husband Charles Ssendagire, the Head of Broadcast (current affairs) at Next Media,  have reportedly left Uganda for the United States in pursuit of “kyeyo” (odd jobs).

Sources in the US told Bbeg Media that the couple arrived in the States last month and have been consulting Ugandans there on how they can apply for asylum.

Sources at BBS TV told us Nandawula, who has also been the host of Mubuwufu, where she interviews prominent people, left the station without formally notifying her bosses.

As for Ssendagire, who worked at NBS TV, he informed his bosses that he was taking a short leave because he was fatigued and needed some rest. Ssendagire, one of the best producers when it comes to live events, was expected to play a significant role in Next Media’s coverage of the 2026 elections. The couple married in 2023.

Their sudden departure raises questions amid Uganda’s challenging media environment. They join other Ugandan journalists who have left Uganda for better prospects.
