Speaking to Bbeg Media, Kariisa said the “board had asked management to find ways of becoming more efficient not to lay off anyone.”

He said the board was more concerned about the burgeoning structure of the group, something, he said, is affecting smooth decision-making.

“It is not true that we are going to sack anyone like your story said. In fact, we want more people because we are planning to launch new products next year. We shall need like 20 more people,” Kariisa said.

Kariisa was reacting to our story on Next Media’s plan to lay off people according to our reliable sources within the group.

In our story yesterday, we said the company had not made a final decision on the matter but the suggestion had been discussed in a November 28 board meeting to lay off some people and shore up the company’s financial position.

Kariisa refuted the main thesis of our story saying it had raised concern amongst employees and business partners.

He assured that Next Media is in a strong financial position therefore there was no need to terminate some staff.
