A month before CHOGM in Kampala in 2007, someone hand-delivered to him an invitation to attend a special dinner with Queen Elizabeth at the Serena Hotel during the meeting. He told the emissary that he would attend the dinner on two conditions: First, the government must buy him a new suit, and second, all four tyres on his vehicle must be replaced. He rejected the invitation until those conditions are met. A week later, the conditions were met. He eventually attended the dinner.
