Butambala which is historically and predominantly Muslim and one of the 18 counties of Buganda only has two Muslims and three Baganda shortlisted to join the UPDF.

In total, 14 candidates were shortlisted to join the UPDF in Butambala. However only Nakimuli Sumayiah and Nantabo Shifah have Muslim sounding names. Those with Baganda sounding names are Nakimuli Sumayiah, Gunataonya Francis and Nabuuma Jascent.
The rest of the individuals on the shortlist appear to come from other ethnic groups. The UPDF has consistently said that it is mindful of social and cultural dynamics while recruiting people to join its forces.
The UPDF recruitment exercise started on Monday July 1 and will end on Sunday July 14.
