Umeme, Uganda’s main electricity distribution and billing company, has announced that for two days (Sunday, December 8 and Monday, December 9), the Yaka vending system will be off to enable the firm to carry out a systems upgrade.

In a statement, Peter Kaujju, the head of communications at Umeme, urged customers to purchase their tokens in time.
“Customers are advised to purchase sufficient Yaka units to cover their electricity supply during the system downtime,” he wrote in a statement.
Umeme recently told customers who have not upgraded their Yaka meters to do so to avoid disconnection.
