The sixth edition of Uganda’s Bi-Annual Private Sector Tourism Retreat is set to take place from September 9 to 11, 2025, in Fort Portal.
Over 200 chief executives, industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from Uganda and beyond will gather to discuss strategies, form partnerships, and align policies to enhance Uganda’s position in the global tourism sector.
Julian Kaggwa, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) said the retreat’s goals include fostering stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, promoting Uganda’s unique natural beauty, cultural diversity, and warm hospitality, and advancing sustainable tourism practices.
She said the event aims to position Uganda as a top global tourism destination by showcasing its offerings and addressing challenges like infrastructure development and environmental conservation.
The minister of state for Tourism, Martin Mugarra, said we need to support the sector because it is one of the key drivers of economic growth.
“Tourism is strengthening Uganda’s economy by generating significant revenue and creating jobs. Over 1 million Ugandans are now employed directly or indirectly through tourism-related activities, from tour guiding to hospitality,” she said.
Uganda is renowned for its diverse attractions, including mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, wildlife safaris in Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls National Parks, and rich cultural heritage showcased through vibrant festivals and historical sites.
The retreat will feature discussions on leveraging Uganda’s assets—such as its national parks, diverse wildlife, and cultural experiences—to attract more international visitors. It will also explore ways to ensure tourism growth benefits local communities while preserving the environment for future generations.
