The tweets that landed Simon Njala Kaggwa in trouble with NBS

On Monday, the top management team of Next Media in a day long meeting decided to suspend senior talk show host Simon Njala Kaggwa for reportedly breaching minimum editorial and ethical guidelines of the organization.

Kaggwa was adjudged to have been partisan following his active participation in Mathias Mpuuga’s thanksgiving event in Masaka on June 21 where he was the master of ceremonies.

Yet Kaggwa’s troubles, according to sources at Naguru, did not only emanate from Mpuuga’s event. Rather, they stem from a torrid of tweets that he posted on his X handle from the start of June which called into question his professionalism and impartiality as a journalist.

“He went over the board and attacking a section of the National Unity Platform (NUP) that was hostile to Mpuuga,” said one of our sources at Naguru.

From calling some of NUP supporters ‘swine’ and ‘goons,’ Kaggwa, management deemed, crossed the red line.

Indeed one June 22, a day after Mpuuga’s event, Kaggwa posted: “I’ve been journalistically wanting over the past several days. Kasita project egguse. Kati I’m back to professional ways. Lesson; I’ll defend my church always,” confirming that he had acted unprofessionally.

Here are some of the tweets that landed the prominent media personality in trouble.

Mass at 10am at Kitovu Arena. The date remains 21st June 2024. Theme is Thanksgiving! I’ll be there. Forget the whimsical noise makers.  @MathiasMpuuga epitomizes strategic politics anchored in experience and class. You can’t decimate him for you to grow riff raffs! No way!

How do we contend with a new politics that disses experience, grooming, culture, deep reasoning, strategic thinking, transparency, couthness, diplomacy, systems & instead celebrates gutterism & arbitrariness? #June21stgyendi

I’m reminded of Katikkiro @cpmayiga ’s advice, “don’t look at politics as a game”. The current pantomimes & the actors are symptoms of a gross cultural problem we created. We regaled politicians with praise & let their egos grow as they gorged on trivia, showbiz & charlatanism.

No amount of vitriol from hired keyboard goons should derail us from desiring for a better opposition. We should press on for accountable leadership, regardless. It’s typical of crooks disguised as politicians to form armies that will fiercely defend their mischief for pennies.

Eh, but this dumbness from the hired keyboard goons! None makes a sensible response. They must be feeding on pig pellets. Real swines are online with vitriol.
