Nation Media Group (NMG) is considering scrapping the Sunday edition of Monitor Publications Limited as part of its restructuring process, sources at Namuwongo have told Bbeg Media.
It is not clear when the decision will be effected, but reliable sources said “by April Sunday Monitor could be no more.”
We have been told that during a recent meeting, management noted the circulation of the paper had sharply declined, and at the same time, the edition hardly attracted advertisers.
Sources said circulation has fallen as low as 3,000 on some Sundays, yet the company injects a lot of money to print and circulate it. It is the second time in three years that NMG has considered scrapping its Sunday edition.
Sources said 2025 was a bad year for Monitor Publications Limited, financially, and management even considered laying off staff this year.
However, during a recent Heads of Departments (HODs) meeting, management informed staff that they will not sack anybody for now, sources said.
Daily Monitor’s local competitor, The New Vision, stopped printing its Sunday edition two years ago due to financial reasons. They now have the Weekend Vision, which combines Saturday and Sunday.
