Stanbic Bank launches 2025 Entebbe Open Golf Tournament with business networking focus

Stanbic Bank Uganda has officially unveiled the 2025 Stanbic Entebbe Open Golf Tournament, blending top-level sport with business opportunities. The event, set for 5-9 October at the historic Entebbe Club, is the third in a row sponsored by the bank since the Covid-19 pandemic. It aims to boost Uganda’s sports scene and foster community ties.

This year’s tournament stands out as it overlaps with the East African Business Summit cocktail for the first time. Rita Apell, Stanbic Bank’s Chief Information Officer, explained that this mix creates a special link between golf and business, drawing in leaders from across the region to join in.

“The tournament will run over four exciting days, ending with a shared closing dinner at the famous 19th Hole on Uganda’s Independence Day, 9 October,” Apell said. “Combining golf with networking is designed to make the event more valuable for everyone involved; players, sponsors, and guests.”

The competition includes three main groups: professionals, gross players, and a subsidiary category. Prize money has been boosted significantly – from Shs 40 million to Shs 50 million for professionals, and from Shs 5 million to Shs 15 million for amateurs.

Apell highlighted that this reflects the bank’s commitment to Uganda’s growth, with the motto: “Uganda is our home; we drive her growth.”

Jacob Byamukama, chairperson of Entebbe Golf Club, praised Stanbic for their ongoing support amid other demands.

“We are honoured to host this growing tournament, which highlights the best of Ugandan golf and promotes unity across East Africa,” he said. Over 300 players are expected, with added prizes, more participants, and the business summit integration promising a top-notch experience.

Isaac Ajiji, Stanbic’s Marketing and Brand Manager, added that FlexiPay, the bank’s digital payment tool, will offer special deals during the event.

“Use FlexiPay or your Stanbic card for discounts on green fees and easy buys like drinks. It’s all about making banking rewarding and digital, creating great memories,” he noted.
