Stanbic Bank Uganda has donated maternal health equipment worth Shs 44 million to Rukoki Hospital, in Kasese, to address the facility’s maternity ward challenges.
The donation, handed over during a ceremony, included four oxygen concentrators, 10 modern maternity beds with accessories, two blood pressure monitors, and 200 Mama Kits. Dr Edward Wafula, the hospital’s in-charge, said the equipment ensures safer deliveries, better neonatal care, and improved hygiene, calling it “a lifeline” for maternal services.
The donation is part of a Shs 300 million initiative launched by Dr Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, to support health centres nationwide.
Stanbic Bank has equipped over 10 facilities this year and plans to reach nine more by October’s end. Dr Atwine praised the bank’s efforts.
“Partnerships like this are vital to ensure no mother dies while giving life,” Atwine said.
Rukoki Hospital, upgraded in July 2025 from a Health Centre IV, serves a large population, handling between 200 and 300 deliveries monthly. Despite challenges like high patient volumes and a 2021 fire that destroyed equipment, the hospital remains a key referral facility in the Rwenzori region.
Sam Bulenzi, Stanbic Bank’s Head of Coverage, praised the hospital’s resilience and the bank’s commitment to Uganda’s growth through health, education, and environmental support.
Kasese Municipality MP Kambale Frigo noted the donation’s impact on improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.
