Kira Municipality MP, Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda, has said ordinary supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) commonly referred to as ‘foot soldiers’ shall never become ministers even if Bobi Wine became president of Uganda.
Ssemujju made the remarks while appearing on the CBS talk show, Kiriza Oba Gana on March 7 in response to attacks directed at Mathias Mpuuga, the former Leader of Opposition, by a section of NUP supporters, something that he said needs to stop.
Mpuuga fell out with his party over the Shs 500 million he received from Parliament as a reward for serving as LOP. NUP says Mpuuga must return the money and resign as parliamentary commissioner.
Ssemujju, a classmate of Mpuuga at Masaka Secondary School, said many of the so-called foot soldiers are just simply abusive and the best they can do is to give their lives in the struggle. He said they cannot provide leadership.
“A foot soldier can’t be a minister of Finance however much they want. That is why I am the shadow minister for Finance [because I am competent] chosen by Hon Kyagulanyi. They [foot soldiers] should stick to markets, boda boda stages,” he said.
Ssemujju said the so called NUP foot soldiers had grown wings to the extent of insulting prominent people like Dr Kizza Besigye.
“I am waiting for the day they will insult Bobi Wine because that is what they have been trained to do,” Ssemujju said.
Ssemujju’s remarks have attracted mixed reactions on various social media platforms.
Some claimed Ssemujju had become arrogant and joined the ‘eating group’. They said he is not concerned with the plight of ordinary people.
Others said he was speaking the truth because world over the ordinary people who participate in political revolutions never end up as leaders.
