Speaker Anita Among has dismissed reports that she owns a house in the United Kingdom.
It follows a letter from President Museveni where he wrote that he had been informed that the speaker owns a flat on Waterden Road in London. Museveni, in his May 23 letter, also directed the ministry of Foreign Affairs to contact the UK government to verify the reports.
In response, Among said she was glad that Museveni had given attention to this matter and chose to use formal diplomatic channels. But she insisted that the reports are false.
“Indeed, like the known principle of natural justice recognized in most jurisdictions of the Commonwealth (including Britain), the one who alleges must prove. Since the UK government claims I own property, it should be prudent of them to state which property I own as Anita Annet Among. Forgery should be the least the world can expect from them. I am sure this is the answer my president, our government, and myself want from them,” Among wrote on X.
She said there are mechanisms to establish the rightful owner of her alleged house ( Flat 4, Silk House, 7 Waterden Road, London, E20 3AL).
She blamed her stance against homosexuality as the cause of her troubles.
Recently, theUK slapped sanctions on Among and two former ministers for allegedly engaging in corrupt practices.
