Rev. Fr. Constantine Rupiny is the new bishop of Nebbi Diocese. The annoucement was contained in a statement by Luigi Bianco, the papal nuncio to Uganda.
“The Apostolic Nunciature desires to congratulate the new Bishop and invokes abundant blessings upon his pastoral ministry in that local Church,” the statement read.
He replaces Archbishop Raphael p’Mony Wokorach who earlier served as the bishop of Nebbi. Wokorach is now the archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese. He will be consecrated within 90 days.
Rupiny who is 50 years will superintend over the diocese for 25 years since bishops retire at 75 years.
Who is Bishop-elect Constatine Rupiny
Constantine Rupiny was born on November 10 1974 in Parombo, in the Diocese of Nebbi.
He studied philosophy at the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary in Alokolum (archdiocese of Gulu) (1996-1999), and theology at the St. Mary’s National Major Seminary in Ggaba (archdiocese of Kampala) (2000-2004).
He later obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome (2009-2011) and a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Poland (2018-2022).
He was ordained a priest on August 28, 2004.
He has held the following positions: Parish Vicar of Kango (2004-2005); Parish Priest of Akanyo (2005-2007); Formator and professor at the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary in Alokolum (2007-2009, and 2011-2018); Vice President of the Presbyteral Council of Nebbi (2017-2018); Vice Rector of the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary in Alokolum (January-September 2023) and, since September 2023, Rector of the seminary.
