Police have arrested Hyderi Aber, a Pakistan national, for allegedly trafficking over 15 Pakistan nationals and robbing them of $ 10, 000.
The Police told journalists that Hyderi has been masquerading as Shabir Hussein within the Pakistan community in Uganda.
Derrick Kigenyi, the spokesperson in the coordination office of Trafficking in person said Hyderi was registered as a refugee in the Office of the Prime Minister and by the Pakistan embassy but he was engaging in other criminal activities.
He called upon other ministries concerned with refugees to take stringent measures against some of these people.
Police alleged that Hyderi’s four other accomplices are: Ali Tabir, Hafiz Hakim, Kadir Ahmed and Rana Hamjid.
Meanwhile, Simon Mundeyi, the spokesperson for the Immigration has clarified on reports that many Ugandans of Rwandan origin are being denied passports.
Addressing journalists, he said for one to qualify to get a Ugandan passport he or she must have Ugandan parents or grandparents of Ugandan origin. The spokesperson added that the immigration officers are following the law.
“In Uganda it’s not automatic that one becomes a citizen by birth unlike other countries. However, l urge all foreigners to visit immigration offices and acquire a certificate of naturalization,” Mudeyi said.
