Owiny-Dollo says Kanyeihamba shaped Uganda’s jurisprudence

Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo has described the late Supreme Court Justice Prof. George Wilson Kanyeihamba as a distinguished law professor and judge whose illustrious career profoundly shaped Uganda’s jurisprudence.

Speaking to Bbeg Media at the High Court in Kampala during a special court session held to honour the memory of the retired supreme court justice, Owiny-Dollo praised Kanyeihamba’s integrity and his extensive contributions to legal scholarship through numerous law journals published locally and internationally.

“When you serve on the bench, you never truly die. Justice Kanyeihamba, with his exceptional performance, will live on through his landmark judgments and rulings that shaped our country’s jurisprudence,” Owiny-Dollo said.

He highlighted Kanyeihamba’s courage and substance, noting that the judiciary needs more individuals with his attributes to uphold the principles of constitutionalism he championed.

Former Prime Minister and close friend of the deceased, Amama Mbabazi, described Kanyeihamba as a brilliant legal mind cherished by lawyers both in Uganda and abroad. Mbabazi praised Kanyeihamba as a moral compass who taught the values of responsible citizenship.

Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka commended Kanyeihamba as an accomplished jurist who authored numerous legal publications and taught constitutional law and human rights.

“He did everything in his power to dispense justice and advocate for constitutional order, both in Uganda and internationally, representing our country with distinction,” Kiwanuka said.

Hailing from Kigezi sub region, Kanyeihamba excelled in law at Makerere University and prestigious institutions in the United Kingdom. He is survived by his widow, Suzan Kanyeihamba, two biological children, and several siblings.
