Several employees of Vision Group have expressed dismay at the decision of top management to cut down a tree that had entered the organisation’s folklore.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The tree, located a few metres from the entrance of the main office, formed an umbrella-like shape and served as a shade for staff and visitors.
A long-serving Vision Group employee told Bbeg Media that the tree was also known as a “deal-making” spot under which journalists and news subjects/sources met to thresh out their issues.
Yet it also added to the aesthetic beauty of the building.
We have been told that it was planted in the dying days of William Pike’s reign as a symbol of the group’s attachment to the environment.
“We used it as a point of direction for visitors. It was a symbol of the group,” one journalist told Bbeg Media.
Sources said when information leaked that management was planning to cut down the tree, some employees tried to plead against the decision.
However, management argued that its roots had penetrated the pavement and weakened the structural foundation of the building. They argued the main building would soon develop cracks if the tree was not cut down.
On the night of December 13, the tree was felled and with it, several memories and silent cries.
