Samson Kasumba, a senior news anchor at NBS TV and a social media rabble-rouser, has told young people intending to march to Parliament tomorrow to do so at their risk.
Youths are planning to demonstrate outside Parliament to express their displeasure about the high levels of corruption and misuse of public resources.
Whereas the Constitution allows citizens to demonstrate, Kasumba, in a post on X today, wrote: “There are very many ways to fight corruption and we all should fight it. As someone who has been around some time let me say that being on the streets tomorrow trying to March to parliament will be very risky and dangerous for anyone who tries that route. Have a lovely week.”
Predictably, the post has been met with criticism from a section of his followers
“Mr Samson you are doing a disservice to yourself and your brand. It’s better you keep quiet. If you don’t support the cause rather than generating unnecessary hate from the population…people are tired and angry,” wrote one follower who goes by the handle Bushenyi’s Lawyer.
Another, Ken Sharif asked Kasumba: “Why care… what alternatives do have that isn’t done yet!! Why mock people on something you’re not going to participate in? it’s better to not post anything about it and focus on your career.”
In several sarcastic posts today, Kasumba has been poking fun at those supporting the march.
After the Romantic Mukiga, a radio host on KFM, said he will participate in the demo, Kasumba told him to “send him a video of himself marching to parliament tomorrow.”
In reply, the Romantic Mukiga asked: “I send it to you as who?”
Kasumba’s comments echo those of President Museveni who told the nation on Saturday that those planning to demonstrate on July 23 are “playing with fire.”
