The incumbent, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the NRM will start his 2026 re-election campaign in Makindye division while Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform (NUP) will head to Jinja on September 29. It is the first time since 1996 that Museveni has not started in Luweero district, which the NRM has symbolically regarded as the birth place of its liberation movement.
That is according to the The Electoral Commission (EC) campaign roadmap for the 2026 general elections, unveiled yesterday. It details schedules, venues, and guidelines for all nominated presidential candidates.
EC, while meeting candidates or their representatives yesterday assured that the roadmap ensures transparency, fairness, and equal opportunities for candidates to engage voters across Uganda. It urged all stakeholders—candidates, supporters, security agencies, and the public—to adhere strictly to the roadmap to maintain peace and promote democratic participation.
